about filmfiles
We create a publicly accessible, professional database of Polish films digitized in modern digital formats. Our goal is to facilitate work for cultural institutions, the audiovisual industry, distributors, sales agents, educators, and everyone interested in the history and present of Polish cinema.
Filmfiles is a collection of over 600 feature, documentary, and animated films. Our database includes films after digital restoration, including the oldest preserved titles of Polish cinematography.
The service was created to gather reliable, up-to-date, and technically precise information in one place, allowing you to check a film's availability, its digital formats, and sharing options. This makes it easier to plan screenings, retrospectives, educational reviews, and research work.
This is just the beginning — the database will be constantly enriched with new titles, so that over time it will become as complete a review of Polish cinema as possible. We are building this database together with industry partners to spread knowledge about Polish films and their modern digital versions — and thus support their presence on screens in Poland and around the world.
how does it work?

Project Goal
The main goal of the project is to create and provide an innovative, publicly accessible database of Polish films. The platform aims to support the promotion, popularization, and increased accessibility of Polish film heritage domestically and abroad, improve information flow in the culture and creative industries sector, and enhance users' digital competencies through the use of modern technologies, including AI-based tools.
The catalog is a reliable source of information for a wide range of users, particularly cultural institutions, audiovisual sector entities, film festival and review organizers, distributors, sales agents, educators, researchers, students, and individual audiences interested in Polish cinematography.
Thanks to it, users can easily check not only basic film data (title, director, year of production), but above all identify the rights holder and available digital formats ready for broadcast (DCP, TV/VOD broadcast files, Blu-ray).
Digital Transformation and Innovation
The project is part of the modern digital transformation of the cultural sector through:
- gathering dispersed information about digitized resources in one intuitive place;
- using AI technology to translate database content into the most popular foreign languages, which supports the promotion of Polish cinematography on the international stage;
- basing the data structure on proven audiovisual content description standards, ensuring interoperability and ease of information exchange.
Green Transformation
We carry out our activities in the spirit of ecology and sustainable development. The Digital Catalog of Polish Cinematography is a modern alternative to traditional printed guides and festival catalogs.
- abandoning print allows for significant reduction in paper, water, and energy consumption;
- digital distribution eliminates the need to transport physical promotional materials.
Implementation Results
With support from NextGenerationEU funds, we are building a tool that:
- streamlines contact between rights holders and entities wanting to legally screen Polish films;
- increases the visibility of Polish cinema domestically and abroad;
- ensures professionalism of information in the audiovisual industry;
- raises digital competencies in the cultural sector.
