In the early 1930s, world-famous tenor Taviatini arrives in his Polish hometown. The artist is surrounded by a circle of people who, more than his talent, value the opportunity to bask in the glow of someone else’s career. In the luxury hotel where the star is staying, deals, favors, and hidden interests multiply. Netz, his devoted yet exceptionally cunning secretary, dreams of securing his own position in the new opera house being established in Strasbourg and tries to keep order amid the chaos. When Taviatini unexpectedly begins to have vocal problems, the entire delicate system of dependencies starts to crumble. The same people who moments before vied for the singer’s favor now want to sever all ties with him as quickly as possible — and even Taviatini himself longs to disappear from this place of defeat.
