Fredek, a young engineer with a head full of ideas, invents a device that not only allows people to hear but also to secretly watch their conversation partners. His invention quickly disrupts the established order of the town: random images spark jealousy, reveal betrayals, and expose minor deceptions that everyday life had kept hidden until now. Fredek himself becomes a victim of his own technology when he begins to doubt his fiancée’s fidelity, and an attempt to sell the invention to a factory owner leads to a family upheaval. Although the "telephonovisor" brings chaos and makes more than one heart spin, it ultimately becomes a symbol of progress and hope. Conflicts are resolved, misunderstandings cleared up, and the young protagonists—Fredek and Irma, along with two other close couples—find happiness. Progress triumphs, along with faith in the potential of the younger generation.
