After more than a decade, Paweł (Marek Kondrat) returns to Silesia, leaving behind Hamburg and fragments of a life that seem as distant as another world. His return to his homeland becomes an excuse to reunite with childhood friends—Szymek (Krzysztof Globisz) and Elka (Krystyna Janda). Together, they attempt to confront a mystery that has cast a shadow over their lives for years: the disappearance of Weiser Dawidek, a Jewish boy who was both a stranger and a fascinating, beloved companion of Elka’s. Weiser stood out not only because of his faith and customs but also due to his extraordinary abilities—he read mysterious books and seemed to float in the air. A childhood adventure involving leftover wartime weapons and explosive charges was meant to blow up an old bridge. At the crucial moment, when the mechanism failed, Weiser and Elka went down into the canal. After the explosion, Elka survived, but Weiser vanished without a trace. A subsequent investigation involving the school, guardians, and a priest grew around this tragedy but brought no answers. Years later, Paweł returns, bringing with him the weight of guilt, unexplained events, and questions that were never answered. Paweł, a sound engineer by profession, works on restoring old recordings—but soon he begins to reconstruct his own memory with equal care, tracing the remnants of past events and disturbances that have remained with him forever. Meetings with old friends become a trial of coming to terms with the past, reconstructing memory, and taming what is irreversible.
