Ewa (Hanna Mikuć), a young actress at the Pigmalion Theatre, lives alone and dreams of a breakthrough role. Until now, she has only performed in minor parts, supported by her friendship with the older actor Ziembiński (Henryk Machalica) and helping retired women. When director Lewicki (Marek Kondrat) arrives at the theatre and casts her as Cordelia in "King Lear," Ewa develops the character independently, drawing also from personal memories. In her private life, she rejects the seeming closeness of Felix and instead forms a spontaneous connection with a stranger. Although Lewicki abandons staging the play, Ewa finds her role in a private duet with Ziembiński, walking by the sea and reciting Shakespeare.
