Young Janek, a city dweller, suddenly leaves his former life behind and sets off to the countryside to work in the forest logging. He takes up residence in a modest cabin with an elderly woman, where he discovers the rhythm of simple life—hard work, daily chores, and a connection with nature—that brings him inner peace. Among the workers is Michał, with whom Janek forms a bond, although the group's atmosphere is often tense and fraught with minor conflicts. The man begins to notice the beauty of the world around him—the shifting light through the trees, the rustling of the forest, the rhythm of labor—that gradually transforms him. Yet memories of the past, especially the image of a beloved woman, return in his dreams, stirring inner turmoil and a longing to return to his former life. This story, inspired by Edward Stachura’s book, combines contemplation of nature, solitude, and the search for life’s meaning, in the delicate, poetic style characteristic of Witold Leszczyński.
